MCP server for ChatGPT agents

The HTTP API works with a bearer key. ChatGPT's documented custom MCP auth does not match Tillpad's bearer-only server. Tillpad isn't an official ChatGPT app. For developers connecting ChatGPT agents. Pro is $9 a month. Checked October 2026.

What OpenAI documents

OpenAI's help center says you add a custom MCP server from Plugins, enter a public HTTPS URL, and configure authentication (connecting custom MCP servers). The developer guide says the supported transports are SSE and streaming HTTP, and that the authentication options are OAuth, no authentication, or a mix of the two (add a custom MCP server).

Tillpad's MCP URL is https://tillpad.dev/mcp, which is streamable HTTP. Calls without Authorization: Bearer tp_… are rejected. The server does not implement OAuth. OpenAI's docs don't mention a field for a custom header, so ChatGPT's connector form may not work with Tillpad yet.

The OpenAI Responses API documents an authorization field on an MCP tool and describes it as an OAuth access token (MCP servers). We haven't tested a tp_ key in that field, so we don't recommend it yet.

HTTP API that works today

An agent that can make HTTPS calls can use the Tillpad routes directly. The example stores a memory string and reads the budget. Both routes exist. Metered writes still need active Pro.

import os
import requests

base = "https://tillpad.dev"
headers = {
    "Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['TILLPAD_API_KEY']}",
    "Content-Type": "application/json",
}
requests.put(
    f"{base}/api/memory/facts/preference",
    headers=headers,
    json={"value": "Prefers email before noon."},
)
print(requests.get(f"{base}/api/budget", headers=headers).json())
